FIGC Support Prandelli In Cassano Snub

President of the Italian Football Federation Giancarlo Abete has supported Cesare Prandelli in the Italy tactician’s choice to snub Antonio Cassano in the current World Cup qualifying round.

The Inter striker has been in excellent form to start the campaign after securing a late switch from crosstown rivals AC Milan in an exchange that saw Giampalo Pazzini move the opposite way, but hasn’t been picked by Prandelli for La Nazionale since the European Championships this past summer.

“The exclusion of Cassano is down to the tactical decisions of the Coach. [Prandelli] wants to look at new players,” remarked Abete to Radio RAI on Monday.

“Spain, for example, changed half of their side after they won the European Championship and did the same after winning the World Cup.

“We don’t have any indispensable players, apart from Juventus’ Andrea Pirlo. There are other first team players, but they are all approachable ones.”

Cassano has recorded four goals in seven Serie A matches for Inter this season, while his international tally stands at 10 goals in 35 appearances.
