Vito Mannone Wants to Play in Serie A

Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone has increased speculation of an impending move to Serie A in responding to rumors by affirming  his desire to play in the peninsula.

The 24 year-old has had a bright start to the season with Arsenal, performing well in opportunities given by Arsene Wenger, and threatening Polish keeper Wojchiech Szczesny’s grip on the starting role between the sticks.

“I am happy at Arsenal and want to be Number 1 here,” the former Italy U-21 international stated to Corriere della Sera.

“Then I’d love to return to Italy and play in Serie A, hopefully with my beloved Milan. I have always supported the Rossoneri.”

Mannone was the object of transfer theorizing earlier in the week when he was linked with potential moves to Inter, Napoli, and Milan. The Rossoneri and Partenopei are known to be actively searching for replacements for the aging Christian Abbiati and Morgan De Sanctis respectively.

“And finally, the Nazionale, which I already experienced at youth level, but the senior Italy squad is very different.

“I had some tough time, as in 2009 I played for 10 games after [Manuel] Almunia’s injury, but the manager did not think I was ready. I was absolutely furious and wanted to leave. Now I understand and have achieved maturity by working hard."
